Michigan Marina Business Acquired by Safe Harbor Marinas

Safe Harbor Marinas recently announced its purchase of Michigan’s family-owned Tower Marina and Saugatuck Yacht Service. 

Each are part of Tower Marine, which was launched in Michigan six decades ago by Rolland Peterson and his son, R.J. Peterson, who managed the company until his death in 2020 at age 93.

‘They acquired land and basically built a marina from undeveloped real estate,” R.J.’s son, Matt Peterson, said in a report in the Saugatuck Sentinel. “It was operated for many years by members of our family—my father, my uncle Erik and myself.”

Safe Harbor Marinas owns, manages, and operates more than 130 marinas across dozens of U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

Matt Peterson will continue to own and operate Tower Marine Boat Sales, a yacht brokerage and new boat dealer for Chris-Craft.
